Still, it will help you get an idea about Kaziranga National Park and its nearby places that can be visited within your limited schedule.
1. About Kaziranga
Kaziranga National Park is UNESCO World Heritage site because of its unique natural environment. Kaziranga is spread over a 430 Sq Km area and mainly touches two districts of Assam these are Golaghat district and the Nagoan district of Assam. Rhinoceros conservation in Kaziranga was started dated back in 1904, when Mary Curzon, wife of lord Curzon (Then the Viceroy of India) visited the area and didn’t able to see a single rhinoceros, for which the area was known for. Mary Curzon then requested her husband to take urgent measures to protect the rhinoceros. From 1904 to 1985, Kaziranga has passed a long journey to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Now Kaziranga National Park is one of the most visited tourist destinations in North East India and thousands of households nearby Kaziranga is directly associated with it through the tourism industry.
2. Where is Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park is located at the Golaghat District of Assam. It is in the northeastern part of India. It is around 200 Km from Guwahati, the getaway of the northeast. The northern boundary of Kaziranga National Park is surrounded by flood plains of the mighty river Brahmaputra, which is one of the most sediment-charged rivers in the world.
3. How to reach Kaziranga National Park:
There are various means to reach Kaziranga National Park but the most convenient mode will be up to Guwahati by flight and then from Guwahati to Kaziranga by hired taxi or public transport. The nearest airport to Kaziranga is Rowriah Airport which is located in the Jorhat district of Assam. From Rowriah Airport to Kaziranga is around 115 km but Rowriah Airport has less frequency of flights as compared to Guwahati Airport ( Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport). Due to this flights to Jorhat may cost higher than Guwahati.
If you love traveling by train then Guwahati Railway station is well connected with rest of the India. Guwahati Railway station is located at Paltan Bazar, and from Paltan Bazar to you can easily book a Cab or auto to reach ISBT (Inter State Bus Terminal) at Lokhora, Guwahati. From ISBT, Guwahati there are day and night buses available to reach Kaziranga National Park. If you are visiting for the first time then it is advisable to take the Day bus service instead of the night bus service since most of the night buses cross Kaziranga or Bokakhat (Nearest town adjacent to Kaziranga) at midnight.
Day service buses are available from early morning and most of the buses leave ISBT before 10 am. If you miss day bus services in the early morning even then you need not to worry as other vehicles like Traveller, Winger, etc are available from Khanapara, Guwahati.
4. Hotels and Resorts in Kaziranga:
There are hundreds of hotels and resorts near by Kaziranga National Park. Besides cozy resorts and hotels, there are also low-budget guest houses. If required than Jeep Safari and elephant safari are arranged by the hotel and resorts as it is convenient for most of the tourists. But for an elephant safari, it is advisable to make a prior booking as there are most of tourists wants to have an elephant safari.
5. Jeep Safari in Kaziranga:
There are four ranges in Kaziranga National Park where you can do Jeep Safari. These ranges are the Eastern Range or Agoratoli Range, Western Range or Bagori, Central Range or Kohora Range, and Burhapahar Range. The prices for each range are different from one another. Normally this price ranges from INR 2500 to 3500. If you can directly contact the Jeep Safari owner or driver then definitely the Jeep Safari price will be less. Since the hotelier adds their commission for arranging your jeep safari.

Timing of Jeep Safari:
Jeep Safari in all ranges can be done in two shifts. Morning shift 07:00 AM to 10:00 AM and afternoon shift 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Jeep safari entered to the forest during morning shifts need to come out before 12 noon and afternoon shifts need to come out before 5 PM.
Agoratoli or the Eastern range is good for bird lovers. There are lots of water bodies surrounded throughout this range and lots of migratory birds can be seen in this range. Besides birds, you can also spectacle Rhinoceros, elephants, Deer, Wild boar, Assam roofed turtles, etc.
The Kohora range and Bagori range have a dense population of Rhinoceros. So you can spectacle Rhinoceros very easily. Along with the rhinoceros, you can also see elephants, tigers, deer, Assam-roofed turtles, etc. Also, the Burapahar range is good for scenic views.

Elephant Safari:
Elephant safari can be done only in the Bagori range and Kohora Range. For elephant safari per head charge is INR 900. But prior booking is advisable. For elephant safari you need to wake up early in the morning as the first shift starts around 5.00 AM and if the number of tourists is more then the second shift also operates.
6. Nearby Places of Kaziranga National Park:
- Kaziranga National Orchid Park:
Orchids are beautiful flowers and they have aromatic, medicinal as well as flavoring properties. There are around 1256 orchid species identified in India. Out of which 90% of the orchid is found in Northeast India. As the climate of North East India is suitable for Orchids. By visiting this park, you can learn about these orchids and spectacle colorful Orchids.
It is located around 5 Km from Kohora range. During that time you can visit the park. Inside the park, there is an Orchidarium, Bamboo Park, Gurkha Museum, National Museum, Seed Bank, Tree Houses etc. There is also a mini nursery from where you can buy different flowers, plants, etc. You can have your lunch inside the park. This Park opens from 7.30 AM to 5 PM and from 6.00 PM to 7.45 PM cultural program is held. This cultural program gives you an opportunity to learn about the cultural diversity of Assam.
- Kakochang Waterfall:
If you love waterfalls then you should give a visit to Kakochang Waterfall. Geographically it is located in Karbi Anglong district of Assam. It is around 25km from Kohora Range. Unlikely most of the waterfalls get dry during the winter season, Kakochang Waterfall has plenty of water throughout the year.
To reach this waterfall you need to reach the nearest town of Kaziranga that is Bokakhat. From Bokakhat it is around 12Km. You need to track around 2 km to reach Kakochang Waterfall.
